DCL’s Encapsulation Strategy Recognized as Promising

Dark Canyon Laboratories’ proprietary encapsulation technology received favorable review by researchers at the prestigious School of Pharmacy at University College London. The team of researchers, led by Professor Catherine Tuleu, performed a meta-analysis of taste-masking strategies for PEG-based colonoscopy preparations. They reported:

“In conclusion, this systematic review highlights that simple adjustments to bowel preparation components and flavourings alone are insufficient to significantly enhance acceptability. Promising strategies instead involve adjuncts (e.g. menthol candy drops, orange juice, lemon slices, citrus reticulata peel), alternative beverages (e.g. coffee, Coke Zero, sports drinks), and encapsulation technologies, offering actionable insights for optimizing future formulations.”

The University College London report underwent peer review and the paper is now in press at the journal iGIE.

Dale Bachwich, Chief Medical Officer of Dark Canyon Laboratories, views this report as a very positive development for both patients and health care teams. “Independent world experts in pharmacology are now recognizing that currently marketed PEG-based colonoscopy preparation products fail to meet the unmet need of improved patient acceptability. Further, Dark Canyon Laboratories is gratified that world experts now recognize that Dark Canyon Laboratories’ encapsulation technology is among only a few promising strategies ‘offering actionable insights for optimizing future formulations.’”
